Dr. Andy Thompson, Rheumatologist
Dr. Andy Thompson is a rheumatologist and one of the founding partners of the arva clinic. Dr. Thompson completed his medical training and residency in internal medicine at Western University followed by a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Thompson holds a Masters Degree in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine, Western University in London, Ontario.
Dr. Thompson specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune and rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and systemic lupus. Dr. Thompson also runs a busy gout clinic.
Dr. Thompson has published on several topics in rheumatic diseases and has presented at both national and international meetings. Dr. Thompson also works to support the rheumatology community by maintaining two websites www.RheumInfo.com and www.RheumTalks.com for health care professionals and patients. He is the author of Tarascon Pocket Rheumatologica, a pocket reference of rheumatology that is widely used throughout North America.
Marlene Thompson, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner
Marlene Thompson is an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner and an Associate Clinical Professor in Physical Therapy at Western University. Marlene is one of the founding partners of the arva clinic.
After receiving her bachelor of science in biology Marlene went on to complete her training to be a physiotherapist at the University of Western Ontario. Marlene has worked in the field of arthritis care for many years. She started her career in rheumatology by training at the Mary Pack Arthritis Program in Vancouver, BC. She moved to London, Ontario in 2004 and worked at the Arthritis Institute in rheumatology and orthopaedics at St. Joseph’s Hospital. After practicing as a physiotherapist for 13 years she decided to further her education and completed a certificate for the Advanced Clinician Practitioner in Arthritis Care, program through St. Michael’s hospital and the University of Toronto.
Marlene has been an active member of the arthritis community. She has been a part of the Arthritis Health Professions’ Association since it became a national organization in 2001. She has served on the board as the BC Representative, Executive Provincial Representative, the Chair for the Professional and Career Development Committee and the CRA Scientific Program Committee Liaison. She was the president from 2008 until 2011. Marlene has been a representative on the boards of various, arthritis related committees including the Canadian Rheumatology Association (CRA), the Alliance for Canadian Arthritis Program (ACAP), the Arthritis Community Research and Evaluation Unit(ACREU), The Arthritis Society Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), the Ontario Rheumatology Association (ORA) planning committee and the AHPA Pre course planning committee.
Marlene is actively involved in research and education. Her research interests are in the areas of Models of Care, triage and arthritis education. Arthritis education is one of her main passions. She sits on the advisory board for the website www.rheuminfo.com. She also actively teaches at both the graduate and undergraduate levels within the field of rheumatology.
Dr. Madison Leitch, Rheumatologist
Dr. Madison Leitch is a Rheumatologist who joined the Arva Clinic team in July 2017. Dr. Leitch is a Winnipeg native. He completed his medical degree at St. Geroge’s University School of Medicine and completed his training in Internal Medicine at Norwalk Hospital, Yale University. He then completed his fellowship in Rheumatology, at Western University, London, Ontario.
Dr. Leitch specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune and rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and systemic lupus.
Dr. Maeve Gamble, Rheumatologist
Dr. Maeve Gamble is a Rheumatologist who joined the Arva Clinic team in January 2018. She is a Sarnia native who completed her medical degree at University College Cork, Ireland. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Rheumatology, at Western University, London, Ontario. During her fellowship she spent time as a part of the ABC News Medical Unit in New York City. While in New York, she developed an interest in medical journalism and gained a sense of responsibility to distribute accurate medical information to the medical community and public. She speaks on many topics to other health care professionals.
Dr. Gamble’s other passion is rheumatic diseases in pregnancy, as a large portion of rheumatic diseases affect women of childbearing age. She completed intense training with Canada’s leading expert in this field and has brought these skills back to Southwestern Ontario.
Her practise consists of inflammatory arthritis and connective tissue diseases. She also counsels women on their disease in pregnancy and co-manages them along with their other specialists throughout their pregnancies.
Dr. Carly Hewson, Rheumatologist
Dr. Carly Hewson is a Rheumatologist who joined the Arva Clinic team in August 2019. Dr. Hewson grew up in Sarnia, Ontario. She completed medical school at Western University in London. She then completed her internal residency and a fellowship in Rheumatology, at Western.
Dr. Hewson has a general rheumatology practice. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune and rheumatic diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
Dr. Michael Arnold, Rheumatologist
Dr. Michael Arnold is a Rheumatologist who joined the Arva Clinic team in October 2020. He was born & raised in London before pursuing post-secondary education. He completed his medical degree in Dublin, Ireland at University College Dublin before returning to London to complete both his Internal Medicine residency and Rheumatology fellowship at Western University.
Dr. Arnold specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune and rheumatic diseases including inflammatory arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout), connective tissue disease (systemic lupus, inflammatory myositis, systemic sclerosis, Sjogren’s syndrome) and other conditions such as polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis.
